Microneedle Skin Care Benefits and Treatment

Linda Lavelle, a specialist in the benefits of Microneedle

Used to generate new collagen and skin tissue, Microneedling (also known as Collagen induction therapy) is performed  by repeatedly puncturing the skin with tiny, sterile needles. Microneedling is a treatment that often benefits wrinkles, pores and scars resulting in firmer more toned skin.

Before receiving the benefits of Microneedle treatment, a skin analysis must be completed. The client needs to inform the Esthetician what her thoughts are, and what they would like to achieve. Then a form is filled out noting your meds, products and sensitivity. Pictures are taken to show beginning and after.

The procedure begins with a sterilized machine and needle specifically used for each client. We determine different depth sizes according to areas, scars are heavier in depth. Acne is different in needle amount. Lines and heavier lines require different depths of needle as well. Application of serums are then applied to skin, such as Hylactive serum to glide the needle on the epidermis area.

More insertion requires needle openings and Vitamin A, E, or C can be applied then. Hyperpigmentation is a big issue, and there are many serums that can be used to attack this problem as well. I have 3 different serums presently that attack this issue, and we are constantly getting more such as my fade and light serum that is used during the treatment. This product is used after the procedure to continue lightening the skin.

A strict regimen is followed 3 days before the treatment, and 3 days after the treatment. In a week, you will start to see collagen formation and smoother glowing skin.

Questions on Microneedling Benefits and Treatments

How does Medical Microneedling work?
Medical Microneedling or sometimes it is called Collagen induction treatment is the use of fine needles implemented into a pen going at a high rate of speed over your face, neck, décolleté,and any area needed for acne, deep lines, hyperpigmentation, scars, and cellulite.

What will I look like after the treatment?
Your skin will look like you have a sunburn. It might be slightly swollen in areas, but ice will help calm that down.

What is the down time for a Microneedling Treatment?
Usually 2 days is required using protocol, however on the second day you can put my base make up on along with my tinted sunblock.

What are the benefits of Medical Microneedling?
The benefits are many, collagen production is number one. It is like a laser treatment but with no down time! Your skin glows with new collagen, your lines are a lot smoother, some lines disappear on first treatment, and your skin is smooth with a healthy glow. Further treatments usually 3 or 4 alter the wrinkles and crow’s feet and deep lines disappear.

What effects does Microneedling have on the skin?
The first benefit is new collagen and elastin production. As we age, we lose both of these in our skin. This is a natural way of replacing our old skin and making new skin come alive.

How much does the treatment cost?
Usually $495 for face, $395 in areas, a series of 3 is usually the way to go,$1200 for 3.

Is Medical Microneedling painful?
When you receive our numbing procedure 25 minutes prior to treatment, clients say it feels like a tingling sensation going over the skin. Some areas are more sensitive than others, but pretty painless.

Can Microneedling be performed on any skin color?
Yes, proper care has to maintained on darker skin so as not to cause any pigmentation problems. An experienced Esthetician or Dermatologist will know what strength to use to not cause this problem.

How many treatments do I need?
Everyone is different depending on what their need is. Most people start out with 3 to 4 treatments and are pretty satisfied with that amount of treatments. Others like the way they look, and continue with more.

How often can Microneedling treatments be repeated?
You can do a treatment monthly or once a year once you are satisfied with your skin.

What are the risk of post op infections?
Very rare, my clinic has been performing this procedure for 10 years now, and I have not had one report of any post op infection.

What should I avoid on my skin after treatment?
For 2 to 3 days, you must avoid any of your usual products and only use our products meant for moisture replenishing. Healing is a lot quicker with the prescribed regime and speeds up collagen production and redness.

What are the side effects after a Microneedling Treatment?
The only side effect is redness, sometimes swollen, dryness unless you use our prescribed regime, and making sure you use a lot of water to re-hydrate.

Am I a candidate for this procedure?
Anyone is a candidate if they want to improve their skin and body, and want to look younger than their best friend!

What does the procedure involve?
It involves filling out a pre consultation form, a skin analysis, and taking pre op pictures and post op pictures. We check for any allergies to numbing crème, sensitivities of any kind, previous hyperpigmentation, and then we can proceed with the procedure taking one hour including numbing.
